Core Objectives & How to Achieve Them

I believe our city needs to:

  • Become a "Lean Company" so that we can Value Stream Map all of our processes and have continuous improvements in all aspects of our Government
  • Do more than the bare minimum for all residents of Washington City
  • Show more employee appreciation
  • Have better communication and transparency between elected officials and citizens of the community so the citizens feel like they are being listened to, heard, and educated as to why some decisions are made the way they are
  • Be more united as a community (Health, safety, and welfare of all within the community)
  • Continue to be smart in planning for the future of Washington City (utility prices, water reserves, public safety, transportation, socioeconomic impact of projects, etc.)
  • Have an improved relationship with St. George and other surrounding communities
  • Have Economic Development with a vision - value add properties and businesses and look for opportunities to capitalize to bring quality businesses and revenue to the city.
  • Be a city that is easy to work with and where businesses want to come
  • Be properly managed by the Mayor and Council so there is more fair treatment in labor practices and proper treatment of personnel
  • Have leaders that are more than just figureheads in the community
  • Have leaders be as objective and as educated as possible in all decisions to be made -- ask the question “will this make Washington City better?”

The following is a list of items (not an all-inclusive list) to achieve our core objectives. As a member of the City Council, I will:

  • Request that we open up an agenda item at the beginning of each meeting (workshop, planning commission, and city council) for public comment
  • Strive to make sure all citizens feel like they are listened to
  • Work to establish a clear city vision through leadership and proper management of the city
  • Be as proactive as possible in communicating with citizens on concerns beforehand and do more than “the legally required minimum”
  • Have feed of council be a FB live feed so we can answer comments as they come in and are related to the discussion
  • Have my cell phone and email address posted so citizens can see it without having to look too hard
  • I will work and be involved in the community to bring people and businesses here.
  • Strive to be at each Planning commission meeting
  • Look at VRBO, AirBnB, and other zoning
  • Continue to look at public transit closely
  • Work to organize community service projects in different areas of the community to involve all members of the community
  • Be more responsive on Social Media channels, gather email addresses, and send out more newsletters to the citizens
  • Work with more technology, manufacturing, retail companies to get them to come to Washington City
  • Actively pursue companies of all industries to come to Washington City
  • Look at Solar Limit and options to help alleviate utility prices
  • Get together with elected officials and decision-making employees at surrounding cities on a regular basis
  • Look at needed Infrastructure and the associated costs through taxes, fees, or otherwise
  • Discuss with Solar Companies and Washington City power how to have the best solution for Solar Power availability for Washington City and citizens
  • Work with other municipalities to see how their processes function and see what we can do to streamline ours
  • Work with the state of Utah to coordinate the “25K new jobs in the 25 counties outside the Wasatch Front” program
